Robert Half Accountemps Assistant Controller in Salt Lake City, Utah

We want a proficient and dedicated Assistant Controller to add to our industry leading Construction Company. This is a contract-to-hire position. You will receive every other Friday off during our slow season. Our Assistant Controller would have the following duties on the job: •Establish/uphold accounting principles, practices, and procedures in coordination with the Controller. •Manage day-to-day operations of the accounting department, while leading and directing the work of others including daily sales, accounts payable and receivable, and supervision of staff accountants. •Review and approve the Daily Sales report, daily and monthly accounts receivable, accounts payable operations and month close process and reporting. •Ensure paperwork gets processed accurately, timely, and correctly. •Oversee the preparation and evaluation of financial operating reports, and presents findings and recommendations to management. •Analyze and report variances. •Monthly financial oversight, month-end accounting duties including leading and coordinating the timeliness of each function with a focus on time saving measures and efficiencies. •Coordinate and support all compliance standards at the unit relating to accounting policies and procedures and the Control Evaluation Self-Assessment. This includes organizing periodic self-audits and utilization of SharePoint to track results. •Analyze and interpret accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters relating to the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the unit. •All other duties as assigned.

We are looking for a candidate who has the following skills and qualifications: •Bachelor's Degree •Five or more years of experience in accounting related work where you have performed jobs typical of an assistant controller / accounting manager; reconciliations, month close, budget variance review, financial reporting, and participation in quarterly and audit reporting. •Previous supervisory experience preferred. •Ability to interpret and implement technical accounting standards and have a comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. •Ability to understand and take appropriate action on all accounting related issues and technical items ensuring proper disposition. •Excellent organization skills, ability to exercise independent judgment, prioritize in a fast paced, high stress environment, meet deadlines and perform accurate work under pressure. •Intermediate to advance excel skills and excellent written and oral communication skills required. •PeopleSoft Financials and familiarization with accounting structure is preferred. •Ability to grasp and execute contractual requirements and deadlines. •Operations experience is helpful.
